Default Advice Please

I am going to be holidaying in Goa for about five weeks starting in early February, a practise I intend to repeat, God willing, over the coming years! With that in mind would I be better off buying a property there or am on balence I better off renting for the month or so that I am there each year. I would point out that I have absolutely no intention of retiring and if I did would only ever live in close proximity to my grandson!

Whilst I'm here anybody with a property to rent for 4/5 weeks in Feb please message me - 1 bed is fine, but would need to have a decent pool - prefer North Goa.

Many Thanks.

Welcome to our Forum Steve !

First things first RENT ! RENT ! RENT ! Do NOT "TRY" and " buy" have a look at BUYER BEWARE as suggested.

If you are a NRI ( non residential indian ) PIO (person of indian origin)or OCI ( overseas citizen of india) you can have a case for buying if not, do NOT take any notice of any builder /lawyer /advocate who tells you otherwise !
Come back to us for further info & God Luck !

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the site. Please read Buyer Beware - it is a disaster zone or read the last page where you will see a Petition that is being put together to ask our Government to help us with our purchase problems.

If you are a PIO Person of Indian Origin, you will be o.k. IF you purchase from a genuine builder - buying in Goa is a minefield of disasters.

Corrupt Builders/Estate Agents/Advocates.

DO NOT BUY RENT.

When you have made three postings you will be able to receive pm

Well it seems that renting is the sensible option! A unanimous response in fact so yes please if I can have the phone number of those appartments it would be gratefully received, however in truth my preference would be for a smaller complex but more luxurious place. All suggestions welcome, along with a recomendation for car hirer sorry but this all uncharted territory for me. when I have been before I have had a friends daughter here that worked for a holiday company, now that she has transferred to head office I'm left to sort things myself!! Ah!!!!

India many times, Delhi, staying with a friend from prep school and his family, Goa probably only 4/5 times, but again I had it easy with everything being organised by a friends daughter that worked in Goa.

I would be very nieve and stupid to think I know all the do's and don'ts, I doubt I know a small fraction of them! Indeed on previous trips everything has been taken care of for me so I would be gratefull for any additional advice. One thing is for absolute certain though having read through the forum that was suggested I certainly won't be buying a property there in the forseeable future, if ever! what a minefield and what absolute horror stories some people have had to go through and indeed are going through. my heart goes out to them.

Yes, property purchase in Goa is indeed a minefield and im glad you have heeded the warnings.
Steve, rental property in Goa is very cheap and there are many rooms available from as little as £5 per night (basic 2 star with pool). You will always get a better deal for long term rental the only thing to watch out for is lack of availability over the Christmas/New Year period although last year even that was not a problem.

Regards,
Remy

Don't know about Jeeps which are a bit of a cult thing like Enfields, but 600/- a day for a car is too much for a 5-week rental out of season.

Leegrand, dont think you have done these guys a favour, especially if they are your friends. Maybe you should contact them and suggest they change their numbers, or at least dont talk to anyone who sounds official...............

This is what the pm system is for, to preserve other peoples privacy.
