Oberbayern is a big place. We live in the five lakes district, also in Oberbayern. What are you planning to do over here? Garmisch is a beautiful spot.

I'm not sure if the American army are still in Garmisch, but there used to be loads. I thought they were pulling out though. I am sure there are many British there as well. In Garmisch there is a golf-course.
What line of work are you in?

I'll try and find out about English-speaking groups for you.

planning to buy and run a small hotel. currently in the restaurants business and plan to move to germany, and take on a new line of work, in a new country, new language, everything.. but it's our dream, so i hope it will work out despite all the difficulties. we will need a support system and some friends and local contact, so if anyone knows some english speakers there, i would greatly appreciate that!

Have you seen a hotel that you would like to buy? The Garmisch area and Austria, have their main tourist season in the winter (snow permitting) but is very popular with the British most parts of the year. Do you speak any German? Essential unless you are aiming at British package tours. At least ,you would need a bilingual receptionist to start with.
