I am currently looking into the work opportunities in the Normandy region. I am in IT related sales however I am very much keeping my options open and I am learning French at the minute so I expect to be at a good standard by the time we move.
1) Does anyone know any websites or organisations that specialise in placing british people in France
2) Does anyone know what sort of skills are in demand so I could possibly cross train.
I know I need to be able to speak french which I am learning but if anyone has any advice or pointers that would be great.

It's hard work here, and you'd probably be better scouring the larger french cities for IT related work, or go into business for yourself. If you can do the latter, you may find it easier to keep English clientele whilst you better grasp the language.
Sorry I can't help you on the website front. Occasionally some of the UK agencies list job opportunities overseas.

Not sure if you have this site already - http://www.jobsinparis.fr/?sector=it
Don't be fooled by the name, they cover the whole of France.
It's worth a look, although I emailed them a question a while ago and got no response, there are some jobs where you can contact them directly.
Good luck

As an outsider you will find it extremely difficult to work in France ..unemployment is high so there are always plenty of people to choose from ..be under no illussion that the french will use French wherever possible ..depending on where you live in france the language can also sound very different ..after being here for several years now ..i have noticede that the only people who tend to succeed are those that become self employed ..and this is not as always as straightforward as could be ..you realy need to be out there and do a trial run ..i found that so many people can give such diverse guidance the only way to find out is to do a trial period ..life is dominated in france by paperwork ..so make sure you pay as much attention to the written as to the oral french ..being an employer here have seen many succeed but twice as many fail ..and none due to lack of trying ..more frustration ..good luck to you ..steve

One of the things we decided at the outset regarding our business was to offer self-employed people a "suck it and see" option. This allows people to try the work and decide whether they're comfortable with both us and the customers before committing themselves to more than a few hours a week. It seems the only fair way, and it's nice to have it confirmed by your comment.
