What next !
Hi everyone !
we are new to this forum although have been reading it for a while now, mainly for ideas, other peoples reasons for leaving England.
Well we have finally decided to take the bull by the horns ! and make our move !! It took a while !
We are a family of four myself, husband, two girls aged 8,12.
My husband is a car mechinc with 14 yrs experience, would he struggle to find work or even open up his own garage ? we speak basic french, and are in the middle of lessons which the children are loving.
The areas we are looking at are Champagne- Ardenne, Limousin, Normandy etc. ( a few i know )
The aim would be to be semi self efficient veg patch, chicks, etc.
We have just had anough of the life we call a rat race having a family u see nothing of i suppose the big one is working for the bank at not having a life .
We have the nice cars, big house, luxuries that mean nothing !!
Any way back to the point !
we are planning a trip just waiting on one passport !! you can bet when you want to go, there is always one the that needs renewing!
We have told the imprtant people and they are happy for us which was a shock, If anyone has got any info that would be great, i have a feelin we might need abit of help ! Here gos to the biggest move of our life

Greatest of luck.
I'd say that being an experienced mechanic is just the sort of skill that might actually get you work down here.
You'll find opportunities and what will count is your reputation from then onwards.
Remember that all farmers are part time mechanics too but the British population will always be looking out for competent mechanics. If you get your French together enough to explain yourself you might try getting a local garage business to take you on if you could drum up custom for them from the Anglophone population.
You'll need some money to tide you by for a while but mechanics are always in demand.
Another plan might be to find an area that has not yet got a Feu Vert sort of garage (one of those garages that does clutch/brakes/tyres/etc in specialised and fast fittings - don't recall what they are called) and open one? I mention this as I had dinner at the weekend with a local farmer who was hoping to open one locally with his brother in law but the third partner pulled out. They see it as a way forward.
Enough.

There's a garage close by us that actually employs an Anglais! They think they get more trade if they have a bi-lingual guy working for them. They could just be right!
Best of luck!

Re: What next !
This is a very rural area and one guy round here acts as a mobile mechanic, going out in his little white van (all hands on people have little white vans here) and taking as many tools/ spares as he can cram in it. Seems to work for him.
