Me and my partner are looking to have a symbolic wedding in the brittany region of france, i dont suppose anybody can recommend a good venue? Or wedding planner? Or any information at all in regards to arranging such a thing. I have been searching online for months now and cannot find anything within our choosen region everything seems to be either paris or the south coast.

Wedding planning is more a UK/US thing. it is indeed tricky to find such service in France.
Nevertheless, I am sure there are plenty of wedding exhibitions in France to find some good advice.

the following weblink shows wedding exhibitions in 2012/2013, some of them are held in Brittany in think.

Best of luck

Hi, not sure what you mean by a "symbolic" wedding.
Do you mean a non-religious ceremony after the official marriage at the Mairie? Or a celebration after a PACS? If so, one of you would have to be resident for so many months (3?) in the Commune of your choice before the official marriage or PACS.
Otherwise, if you're already married by then, it's simply a party venue that you're looking for?

I too wondered what you meant by symbolic. I needed to get married in France within a very limited timeframe as my husband is an airline pilot and we just couldn't afford the time to establish the residency requirements. Eventually we went to St. Malo, got on the ferry to Jersey and got married in St. Helier. Jersey only requires you to be resident for three days for the purposes of marriage. So we had a super little holiday and came home as man and wife, and there are a number of hotels in Jersey that specialise in weddings. Very best of luck.

Thanks for the replies, what we will be doing is doing the legal side in the uk but have the actual ceremony in france, this way we can overcome the residency issue. We are just looking for a venue to have the actual ceremony and reception, its only a small thing but we want views over the sea and coastline for the pictures, just struggling to find somewhere

Hi, I'm still a bit confused. You're basically looking for a place to hold a wedding party. This must be relatively easy to find, but maybe you're looking for an English-speaking officiant/celebrant for the "actual ceremony"?
If no one here can help, you could maybe try a dedicated Brittany Forum...

Practically all communes have a salle des fêtes and most would probably be prepared to hire it out for a day/evening for a private party, especially 'off-season'. Presumably you have one or two seaside communes in mind that you are particularly fond of? Try contacting their mairies - the maire will probably be flattered!

But you say 'ceremony'?

Found this online...

Symbolic Weddings
A wedding ceremony without legal or religious status. This is suggested when you want to experience a wedding ceremony without binding circumstances, except the love between yourselves.

This type of ceremony is often chosen by celebrities since it affords more dramatic or unique locations for photography than many legal ceremonies. In some cases couples will already have taken a registry office legal wedding prior to a Symbolic ceremony. Couples may write their own words or poetry for this type of wedding.

So I suppose a type of blessing, or indeed as previously suggested, a wedding party. As there is no legal or religious significance, it might be nice to get a close friend of the two of you to say some words for you. I think that would be more meaningful than handing the reins to a stranger.

If this IS what you are planning, then the salle des fetes is a good thought, or indeed I'm sure there are many coastal hotels who would be happy to host such a party.

Good Luck!

Have a look at this - then look closer at some of the places that really appeal and contact the Tourist Office in those places. They are a mine of information.
