Facebook has proved to be a more personal connection place where we can moderate ourselves or just plain not bother.

Back to the UK?
All the forums used to be a lot busier back in the day, simply because there were more Brits arriving in France or making plans to do so, they all had questions to ask, and there were more people here living the good life and happy to answer them.
Moving to France was easier in some ways, especially pre-2007. For me, 2007 is probably when the rose tints started falling off for a lot of people, and the gap between the TV progs and reality started opening up. Now, a lot of first-time posters who've been seduced by the TV version vanish as soon as they discover that the reality isn't quite like that.

But all the BE forums are pretty quiet these days so maybe it's just an old-fashioned format.

There are a few French forums I have found but they just consist of posts like 'where can I find an English speaking Builder, Dentist, Doctor, Hairdresser.....or 'how do I receive Sky telly'. Back in the good old days surely people asked/talked about more intelligent things.

We're having a boozy meet up in Toronto again a week on Friday.
You're all welcome.

When you reach France for your permanent retirement, there's one thing you will probably be asked:-
Q. How can one tell the difference between a Canadian and a Frenchman?
A. A Canadian can make love standing up in a canoe......
I can see you getting many standing ovations from strollers in the Jardin des Tuileries.

Well, I'm still on the steep Learning curve about living in France, after Residence of a year and a half, so I often feel that I haven't got much advice to offer on a given Point and so I keep quiet, but I'm on here every day Reading and appreciating - and still loving it here!

If you want to discuss "serious" subjects, there's plenty going in the Spain forum that any one can join in, plus the Lounge, Take It Outside, etc....
Personally I'm quite happy with the way BE works....

@Touraine,
I suggest you try a post on the 'Lounge' forum. You'll love it there.
