Wink UK NOVA a possibility??

Could'nt help but read all of the stuff about iplayer etc from the BBC and what a pain it is if you want to view. There is a service available (im not sure how completely legal???) at www.uknova.com which is great. You can download lots of good quality british tv progs and watch them whenever. The only catch is that you need to register, no penalties, no charges and so long as you keep using it all will be available to you. Be aware that there is a limited membership so you need to keep trying to regisiter if you don't get in straight away.

Your in France not Australia get a Satellite Freeview or Freesat box. Or if you have a bit of spare cash get Sky. It's not illegal to get a Freeview box as it's aired television that is not encrypted. Downloading the content is Copyright Theft and you will get caught out in France unless you use a VPN as the government have recently funded a department to track internet related theft here. This was done to appease Hollywood etc and has brought forwards the release times of blockbuster films in France. If you are caught downloading Copyright material here you can lose your Internet connection and Phone line forever.

Ok....try in the bottom right hand corner Site Rules

It's Copyright protected content, downloading it from the Copyright holders website is fine if you are not breaking their rules.

It's got nothing to do with bureaucrat's, It's a question of Law and Ethics in the Zone/Country you live in.

I really don't think these comments were necessary. Ka Ora! is a valuable source of technical information to others who use this forum. His comments about copyright should be noted, and people should be aware of the penalties if they are caught breaking the law.

I agree Val, and I spent two days clearing stuff off my computer here that my dreaded daughter had put on it, unbeknown to me whilst she was staying here.

Also, not wise to tell a bloke armed to the teeth with guns AND knowledge to "get a life" - ok, I'm no saint, but never broken the law (well, the speed limit occasionally, well ok, lots of times then!) but wise to be really careful these days. Never know who is watching. I put a thread on here today about False Teeth (don't laugh, I did, really) and the banner at the bottom came up with:

Get Your Dental Implants Here.

Scary that, how do they DO that? Big Brother really is watching (or dentists are so short of work they are scanning our posts to drag us to their Chair of Horror and then charge us for the pleasure of being tortured).

Well having spent 8 years with BT at Martlesham Heath working in the Internet Network Management Centre I know what can be done to monitor Internet connections and the traffic crossing them, Part of my job was gathering evidence for the Police to prosecute perverts. The French Network is built in the same manner as the British network using Cisco and Alcatel Lucent Routers when a user connects raw data can be duplicated and dumped to a holding server for analysis. A user that has a lot of Traffic moving over the Dslam (Connection point to Multiplexing Eqip in the Local Telephone Exchange) is more likely to have someone manually have a look at the Traffic.
