Default U bend

Does anyone know the exact term for a U bend? I have been calling it a "siphon" or a "coude", but wonder if there is a precise name. the plumber inissts he has put a "coude" in under the shower tray, but I can see there is no U bend. As he has jointed it into the waste pipe, we are getting bit of an odour!

This is one for Le Plombier, but OH always calls it a siphon. AFAIK a coude is simply a joint in the form of an ... elbow.

The correct term is "coude anti-siphon" but most people just call it a "siphon" for short.

Biggles, as he has just fitted one, tell your plumber not to be so sparing with the huile de coude (elbow grease)
