Default Travel Insurance (medical) for 170 days?

As a Brit and resident in GB, I'd like to get medical insurance for around 170 days - mainly for France but with other EU countries included. The snag I'm finding is the limited single-trip time that you are permitted to be out of the UK. (I'm not talking about the 90-day rule that will come in for 2021.) Does anyone know a company that offers single-trip cover for around 170 days? I mean a policy that does not involve having to return to the UK in between times?
Thank you in advance

GlobeLink seem to offer 170+ day single trip policies. They offer a few edge case policies, such as already travelling top-up policies and backpacker policies.

Can I ask what you will actually be doing here in France as there may be better options than a "travel" insurance

It shouldn't be a problem. Have you googled long stay travel insurance? For instance https://www.staysure.co.uk/long-stay...E&gclsrc=aw.ds

UpinAnniesRoom Off topic I know but since I'm having an idle day I was reading your post from a while back about the Liguria/Sicily/France road trip. Did you do it? How was it? Which way did you go? I worked a season in Aosta, lovely scenery but I did find driving a bit hairy at times. Would be interested to hear about it, if you'd care to share.

Many thanks for the helpful links ... I'll investigate these various options.
Regarding the query from "Listen Very Carefully": the visit to France is for a stay our our holiday home with some trips away to other EU countries.
And to "Euro Trash": no we haven't undertaken that drive up through Italy. We hope to go back to Liguria this year. Doubt that the Genova bridge will be fixed by then ... but there are various work-arounds.
Thank you all again.
