Hi
I moved to France about 18 months ago and didn't have a problem bringing my dog here. My advice is to see your local vet and discuss it with them. They will know exactly which hoops you will need to jump through. One word of warning!! I live in (very) rural France and the locals think I'm strange that I even let my dog in the house!! Our local vet is more likely to have his arm up a vache (cows) bum than check out my dog's worming. Also you will need to treat your dog monthly with "Frontline" as there is a nasty bug here that could kill your dog in days if not protected. Regards Away game Baggie Do not trust what your vet says, go straight to the people that know about this, DEFRA. We bought a puppy on the strength of what the vet said, and have ended up in UK for far longer than we anticipated, but as of today the rules we were told by DEFRA are as follows To take a dog to France your dog needs to be mirochipped, rabies vaccinated and 21 days following vaccination may travel into France with their passport. (however there are very few checks) but to comply, these are the rules. To Return to the UK a positive bloodtest for rabies antibodies needs to be done not before 21 days following rabies vaccination, then 6 months from the date of the positive blood test you may re-enter UK provided within 24 - 48 hours before departure the dog is tick and tapeworm treated by a qualified vet and the passport and paperwork is updated to this effect. HOWEVER, each country has different rules, these are called add-ons to the standard passport for example the tick and tapeworm treatment is an add-on for the UK only, other countries have different add-on requirements, so please check with DEFRA before you travel. I hope this helps someone. xxxx |

What is exactly your problem with taking your dog to France or is it bringing him back to the UK - having lived in France for 20 yrs and brought my dog backwards and forwards with regular monotony, perhaps you would like to give me a ring on either 01268 794202 or 07979345581
We're driving from southern Italy with our dog to the UK and we need to have her treated as legally required. We are too far away to have the treatment before we set off, so we need to find a vet in France. Any suggestions? Looking forward to your reply and hoping you can help!! |
