Been having issues with SFR and would value comment. Came over at start of September, no phone and no internet
Using our Marie, company said line was being upgraded, would be back on for September 30. It wasn't. Our helpful Marie phoned them again. They then said the ADSL filter were were using was old. However, phone and Internet were fine back in Spring. Trip to SFR retailer today. They gave us a new filter, looks identical to one been using.
I am reasonably techie and have tried connected phone only to line and not piggy backing filter. Nothing. Dial out and one gets an engaged tone.
Will try this new filter lag today (in Crescendo at moment and have had to use cafe wifi for past month) and will report when next can log in.
Looking to cancel contract. They suggest you can only do this via phone. I would like to write and cancel and complain and seek refund for the last month.
As I said advice welcome. Oh, we pay by DD, so that not an issue. Cheers to all.

I cant help with SFR I am afraid, but three of our neighbours have had line problems recently.
Two are with Orange, one with somebody else. All have had the same issue - poor or no internet, poor reception on phone. All have been told it is the filters, and have had to change them sometimes several times.
I believe there is a fair bit of work going on in the Charente at the moment, and it may be that.
Good luck

Is it an ADSL line? My understanding is that you only need filters if you are attaching a phone to a phone socket. Therefore, if you disconnect everything and re-attach one-at-a-time, you should get something to work which would narrow it down to the filter or not. Perhaps someone could confirm. I had problems with SFR some years ago. It was traced to the fact that someone had installed a new phone line and they had used my connections in the junction box. i.e. when someone phoned us they got the other person but we had no phone or internet. Have you tried phoning into your phone to see if it is connected anywhere?

Hi - finally some internet, but back in UK to achieve it. It seemed to me (us) that SFR just kept coming up with reasons to divert us. The line in was repaired when we were with Orange previously and it was working previous April and no moans from friends who have visited since.
We are now in process of ditching SFR and will return to Orange, as they, like BT, own the lines in France. And, as we are away for months they allow you, we are told, to suspend the service at no on-going cost. We shall see.
As a sidebar, it was interesting to have to go out and collect mails etc., from various Wifi places. It meant I didn't spend all my time on line, though as I was still working, accessing files above a certain size was tough. It also meant my SOH didn't send her evenings (when TV etc., was poor, no chums to entertain etc.) playing bridge online. It has made us realise how much we rely on the internet, not just for mails, but Skyping family and friends (embarrassing Skyping or receiving Skype in a Flunch or Crescendo!!)

Funny you should mention McD, when we could we enjoyed the coffee and great internet access. Not a great lover of so-called fast food (though SOH rates their McFlurry) but can't fault them for service and cleanliness of the areas including toilets.

Well, despite contact and belief we had cancelled our contract, we find the direct debit taken for this month. Action now is to write to them and cancel and inform them the DD will be cancelled and to copy this to our French bank. We could just cancel the DD, but would need to read the fine print on the contract and even in English that would be a toughie!

Cancellations usually have to be by a certain point in the month with a chance to stop the automatic payment.

Concerns about SFR go from bad to worse. Decided to switch back to Orange, who as most know, own the line, bit like BT. Because I had a line with them previously, I am on their records. Their techie people tested our line. There is a physical fault.
So, SFR responses to us they were upgrading the line, then saying it was our fault with wrong ADSL filter were not true. They ought to have tested the line, found it was faulty and then gone to Orange to repair it. Simple. But, SFR, the techies told me are obliged to pay Orange a fee for the repair. I got a distinct impression my situation was not unique.
So, I am now trying to cancel contract and start afresh with Orange. But, I can't get past SFR contact login, not issue my end, page doesn't respond. So, plea to the many sages on this site. I need an email as I want to cancel this in written form. I can then send to French bank and request cancellation of DD. I also want to request last two months DDs to be reimbursed.

Around 2010, whilst keeping the french home for weekend/hols etc, we went back to live in the UK for around a year. Cancelled combined SFR internet TV & mobile phone account by email and had this confirmed over the phone or so I thought.
Returned to France in 2011 and rented an apartment in a different area (for work purposes) signed up and had Orange internet and fixed phone installed no problem. Happy with the service I went to sign up for mobile too and found I couldn't get a mobile phone account because my contract with SFR wasn't in fact cancelled. I had to send in the resiliation letter by registered post before they would even give me a settlement fee.
I reckon you will need to do the same rather than email. I don't know of anything you can cancel in France these days without resiliation letter sent with "accuse de reception"
Can't see the reimbursement happening either but good luck anyway

Sounds similar. After some research I came across two postal addresses for SFR, so I wrote a cancellation letter in French and English, also demanding repayment of two months fees. These I have sent by registered post so proof and signed for delivery. I also sent copy of these to our French bank, with fresh letter requesting that they cancel the DD with immediate effect. We shall see what happens.
