Hello
We have been advised by our agent in France that the gas boiler in our property needs replacing. We have been quoted 3000 euros for the work, does that sound about right?
Cheers

3k euros including TVA and labour in 2021 sounds on the low side to me.
Ours required replacement in April 2014. After getting 3 quotes from separate companies we decided on a Bosch 4500W 25kw unit (which was recommended) at just over 2k euros, total with labour and tva was 3.4k euros. The same unit needed a defective part replaced just outside warranty, and since then another 2 parts have required replacement. Bottom line is I wouldn't now recommended a Bosch. Perhaps someone else here can recommend a unit with proven reliability.

Thanks for the replies so far. the 3000 was just an indication from the agent but I have now received a full quote from the gas fitter and it is much worse than I feared, 4300 euros is the total price. It includes a new thermostat, fitting plate, connection flue etc and chimney kit. I am still reeling.

Just a thought for you to consider.
We have a new build flat in France and we have electric convectors that we leave at frost setting over the winter.
Would it be worth your while to get quotes for these instead of replacing the gas boiler.
You would have to research the running costs of each but you have a starter figure of €4,300 to play with.
The convectors are timed to heat the living areas and bedrooms at different times of the day in order not to heat rooms that you aren't using during the day.
In the UK, it is proposed to ban the installation of gas boilers from new builds from 2025.

It is a combi boiler and since it is on the Cote d'Azur heating is usually only required for heating a small period during the winter months. Hot water is the primary function
Are there are recommendations for other companies including national ones we can ask to give us a quote.

I think getting other quotes is not only a good idea, but mandatory for a big purchase like this. Best of luck.

Hi again
I now have 2 quotes and they are both around the 4300 euro mark. However, one company has told us about the grants being offered by the French Government for properties to be made more energy efficient. It appears that they do want rented properties to be upgraded and from January have relaxed the rules. However, it seems that Landlords cannot apply directly until July but it is not clear to me whether that only applies to properties not currently rented. So, does anybody have experience of this scheme and is there a way that properties already being rented can apply for this grant and can the installation company apply on the tenants behalf.

I have the gas boiler serviced every year. About four years ago the service agent said a part needed replacing and would cost around €300. He also said that it would probably not last and that I should have a new boiler. I can't remember what the cost was but I decided to spend the €300 on the spare part. Since then no problems. I only relate the story because the situation may be the same with you. Do you know if the boiler is, in fact, finished or possibly just needing a new part(s) It's not unknown that people recommend something new when in fact a spare part will fix it!!!!
