Hi Group,
I am off to Essonnes in May to start a new life, does anyone know of a web based agency for flat/apartment rental and what the current rental costs are out there.
I have been given £350 per month from my company for rent, is this appropriate or should I ask for more??
Best regards

hello
Are you miving in Essonne as in departement 91 near Paris?
I am not sure whether £350 would be enough - it all depends what king of accomodation you are looking for!
You might get a studio or one bedroom flat for this, i am not so sure...
France is not as cheap as everyone seems to think.
We are moving to Montpellier (South East - department 34) and just found a flat for €800 a month - of course we have two bedrooms and a small terrace - so that made the rent go up I suppose!
You should know that renting a flat in france is not easy as landlord have enormous difficulties throwing out a tenant who wouldn't be paying any rent - so be prepared to give loads of papers (ID, bank statement, payslips, proff of work and so on) - also if you go through an agency you will have to pay a month rent in fee -it's how it works over there. There are loads of websites where people try to rent out their flat without going through an agency though (look for de particulier a particulier)
GOOD LUCK
France is a great country I am sure you will have fun!

Essonne is a very nice area of suburban Paris, especially the southern part of it. I was born and raised in that area and have fond memories of it (even though as I grew up I thought it was a bit too boring for my liking
). Even though some places there are not very nice to live in but most of that area of southern Paris is very enjoyable
I'm not a specialist in rea estate stuff in France but this website (the previous poster mentionned it as well) might be useful to you. It's for people wanting to rent out/wanting to find a rental or purchase/sell a property. It's not an agency just individuals posting ads. They also have a weekly mag that comes out every Thursday I think.
