Question about prescriptions....
#1
We moved to a semi-rural area ~4 months ago, and so far we have been unable to find a doctor who is accepting new patients. We are on the list for the medical practice in the next village over but I am running low on my prescription meds and I am seriously worried about how I get a couple of prescriptions filled. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Who issued the prescription in the first place and are you enrolled in CPAM?
Is the issue something that you need to see a specialist for?
Have you tried searching on say "DoctorLib" for a doctor as you can actually visit any doctor as long as you pay !!!! Whilst it is good to have a medecin traitant if you need meds then do not wait

I've searched Doctorlib and the few doctors nearby (within 30 km) are not taking new patients. I am fairly rural.
-->My question is how can I obtain medicines if I don't have a doctor?

Just go on doctolib and make an appointment wherever you can. There's bound to be a free appointment somewhere if you're prepared to travel.

Edit to above - just because it says they're not taking new patients onto their books, doesn't mean they will only see patients who are already on their books. If an appointment is available then anyone can book it, normally. Maybe that is what is confusing you

No, no specialist needed... It's generic BP and gout med. I've had this script for >10 years from my US doctor. I've got CPAM, Amelie, EHIC etc. All good on that front...

Cannot book an appointment without being a patient, so unfortunately no option to book an appointment....

I have a recent blood test from my US doc. Of course it's in English so that'll be a problem....

That's bizarre. I often used to work en déplacement and I never had much trouble booking an appointment with a local doctor. Sometimes there are surgeries where you can just turn up and wait. If doctors in your neck of the woods will only see registered patients, I wonder what foreign tourists and holidaymakers do if they get sick?

Not really, French Doctors understand blood test results in English, but, as Rosemary says about Spanish Doctors, they prefer to start from scratch and do their own thing.

I live in a very rural area. Think 40km round trip to buy a loaf of bread.... I've never met a single person who spoke a word of English....

Yes there may not be anything available quickly. My strategy used to be to grab the first available appt within travelling distance even if it was weeks ahead, then each morning do a sweep of all the possible pracitices, took 5 minutes and uually I hit lucky with a cancellation before too long.
