Opinions needed on teaching project please!
Hi all,
This is especially to those of you who have older children. My french husband is looking to start a new project and we would appreciate your opinions on whether it could be successful or indeed needed/wanted by expats.
He was a secondary teacher in England for 12 years, teaching French, Spanish and later Maths. His English is better than mine sometimes(!) and obviously has good experience of the English education system which is where we think he has an edge over other teachers in France.
He would like to teach English children (or even adults) who are finding it difficult settling into school and need a little extra help but in a way that they are familiar with. Knowing the way children are taught in England he will have different approaches than the French tutors who speak English.
Do any of you think that this sort of approach would or could have help/ed your children if it was available? Or are we aiming at it all wrong?!!
This is not advertising at all, we are just at the thinking stage and everyone on here has been so supportive to us since we arrived (July) that you guys are our first port of call for advice!!! You are always so prompt!
By the way, the boys are loving school and speaking French a bit!!!!
Many thanks for reading.

Re: Opinions needed on teaching project please!
Hi guys, thanks for the support, and bless you to the 'big guys' for putting it back on, appreciated!
To clarify, Ka Ora as I wasn't too clear.......My husband has started as an Independent teacher -mainly for French kids- with a few other French teachers too. He was going to study for the CAPES but as many of you will be aware it is tough to study for let alone take, and then fail many times. We have a very young family (with another one on the way!!!) so we don't want him to be working full time, I need it to be flexible too and we want to start as we mean to go on and not work as hard as in the UK........one of the reasons we are here, time together, anyway, I am swaying off course here!
He wants to give private tuition to British children who are needing help with any of his specialised subjects or for all subjects as a confidence boost as this is probably what many are lacking in. We are imagining the older the children the harder it is for them. My husband has taught 11-18 yr olds for 12 yrs and knows how they 'tick'!
By the way stanage2 thanks for asking where we are but this really isn't an advert for clients. As far as I know we are all really spread out on here anyway. We really just want to know from people that have 'done the journey' that we are on the right track with how to help the English kids to settle quicker-and bridge the gap between the two systems. It will earn us money, keep my hubby in teaching which really is his passion, and be of benefit to many children, we hope.
Opinions please!

Re: Opinions needed on teaching project please!
hi there
I could see this working, particularly for children over 11/12 new to france. Before this they seem to settle quite quickly.
Another possible avenue is to support children with 'issues' not often recognised fully in france yet.
;from my somewhat limited experiences in france ( 18mth) I have found that the english children most challenged by the french system have been those with problems such as dyslexia.
Indeed last term I was offered work home tutoring one such child ( i was also a teacher in the uk) - However I took up the infinitely lazier option of TEFL ( for me!)
Another option is to simply contact your local rectorat with your cv and see what comes up; I was offered a few days work as a supply english teacher.
Finally, in the long term I would recommend the capes; I think you can use your experience as a teacher in the uk to offset some of the training if you pass the concours; though I may have misread the details. I would love to have french good enough to do this but i fear it may be many years yet!!
Anyway, good luck

What an excellent idea! I wish we'de had this kind of help when we first came over with our kids who were then 13,16 and 19 years old. Our middle one's flying high now anyway. The youngest has just started work, but the eldest has moved back to the UK. If we'd have had some help with him, maybe - just maybe he'd still be around, and enjoying a better life with us.
I wish you nothing but success, and if there's anything I can do to help promote what you're doing here in the Loire, please don't hesitate to let me know.
Bonne Chance!

Cheers all. Am sorry that you had a hard time with settling your teenagers but thankfully for us you have confirmed our thoughts Le Chant. We are not in the Loire but if/when we eventually expand that far we will definitely keep you in mind for advertising!! Many thanks for your encouragement. Also to dennerlymum, I have recently met a British mother who has a child of 13 with learning difficulties and yes her child is in need of tutoring, spot on! It is tough for them anyway so I suppose it makes sense for those with extra issues to need more help.
Good point too onlyonebrenda, I hadn't thought about that angle. I was aware of the change but thought no further so thank you.
