I would certainly take up Roger's kind offer.
He has lived in France for many years and has a french wife (sorry Bretonne).
It helps if someone can show you the relevant bits and answer questions - both positive and negative - then that makes your visit more productive.
Carcassonne is not large - probably about the size of Kilmarnock.

Having a friend (french) fluent in the language and french systems helped us greatly.
