Hi
Having spent 2.5 fab years in Oz we are being relocated to Paris with my husbands company. We are very lucky that the move will be assisted (paid for!) but I'm trying to get an idea of the cost of living (houses, apartments etc in the western suburbs of paris). Does anyone know a good website that will show rental properties in Paris / suburbs.
Also - I have 3 children (8,5,3) who will all be school age in Paris. I have been recommended to send them all to a French private school as opposed to a French state school. I'm not too sure what I want - I would like them to speak French but not be too miserable in the process. I'm also concerned that I won't meet any friends if I can't speak to any other parents ! Any advice would be gratefully received

Hi,
Purely because I'm being lazy and can't remember everything I typed last time, have a look at this discussion thread
http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=497423
I moved to Montesson in the Western Suburbs in August, Our rent is approx 3500 euros per month (although don't quote me on that as hubby's work pays it not me!!) My children go to the British School here, there is also a lycee International, American and German Schools locally as well a wide variety of good french schools or mixed bilingual schools,
www.seloger.com was quite a useful site for beginning to look, if only because it pointed us in the right direction for the local estate agents.
There is a large international and expat community all around the western suburbs but equally there are plenty of good very welcoming french associations in the area so you can speak as much or as little french as you want. For me I'm choosing the hard way and immersing myself completely by starting work in the french health system next month!!
Hope this helps,
Bonne Chance!!!!

Hi
I am an Australian married to a Frenchman living in Italy. We moved here from Sydney about 6 months ago. I would advise you to send the children to an international school. I have 2 boys aged 6 and 9 and they both attend an international school here. If we would have moved to France, we would have sent them to French Public school, for no particular reason but they are both fluent in French. Children pick up language far easier than we do, but having said that, speaking and understanding the language is different to being educated in a foreign language.
Good Luck and enjoy Paris
