Medical Cover
I am not sure what will happen if after signing the promesse de vente and selling my French apartment, I fall ill while still in France. My Carte Vitale will no longer be valid since I will have no French address for a period after selling. Has anyone been in that situation needing medical services but still not in the UK? Does the NHS kick in when the address changes?

But how will the Carte Vitale people know you’ve moved out of your house unless you tell them?
I imagine even people staying in France are temporarily between houses all the time and don’t bother notifying the Sécu until they get something permanent.
If all your communication with the Sécu is done electronically, you don’t need to do anything. And if it’s done by old fashioned post, just get la Poste to keep or redirect your mail.
No, the NHS absolutely will not kick in just because you’ve sold your home in France but are still in France.
It’ll kick in once you’re living in the UK.

I’ve just looked and it seems the procedure for reporting a change of address varies depending on whether or not you’re moving to a different département.
If you’re staying in the same one, it looks like there’s minimal paperwork - no proof of new address required.
But if you’re changing département, it’s probably a right palaver.
