You need to be a registered business in france. Then you need a carte d'activité ambulante. Then you go to the relevant Mairies in the town you want to trade ad apply to be allowed... there is a charge.

There will be local regulations to protect/expand facilities, but like all market traders if the market you have an eye on, is selling your product/produce, this may create a problem, as everywhere. I was a trader in UK many years ago. So, I suggest you need to research your product market in the area you have a view to move to. If your French is up to it via mail to the Mairie this will give you a view. If you are selling fruit and veg, meat, fish, material, shoes, fashions you may find life limited. If you are selling a unique product, then, if the market has stall space available, you could be in. Jewellery and bespoke products, perhaps for the tourist season may work. Good luck. Share more info in here and you will be rewarded with good advice from people like dennerlymum.

Gosh, thank goodness I didn't reply earlier.
I thought you meant a market trader in the financial sense, of the Jérôme Kerviel ilk!
Agree with all of the above if indeed a market stall is meant. There have been a few threads on this subject in the past (make a forum search top right). You have to apply to the Mairie of each municipality where you'd like a stand and there are extra regulations if fresh produce is sold. It doesn't sound a very reliable source of income and you'd really need to speak French adequately for the red tape and for communicating with, and selling to, the locals.
Let us know what products you sell and those in the know will advise in greater detail.
