Unusual, but this appears to be a problematic month at the TPipe residence......
Two years ago on seeing that our community were installing fibre-optic lines, we arranged with Orange - our internet provider, to be connected to the network. Two young 'technicians' arrived to perform the connection.Unfortunately they didn't achieve the task.
Another attempt this week by an Orange recommended technician - who seemed more of a pro, spending far more time than the previous team, unfortunately also failed to pinpoint the underground telecom ducting, which I learn doesn't appear unusual with villa constructions exceeding 18 years or more. We've been advised to recontact Orange to advise on a company to precisely locate the exterior ducting.
Anyone have similar difficulties with fibre-optic connection and if so how it was resolved?

Normally they’d pull out your copper feed from road connecting a draw rope in the house then pull it back with the copper and fibre cable on it even old duct would have potentially collapsed by now failing that it’s going to be a dig a replace or install duct.

Well, getting fibre optic installed to our place was difficult to say the least, with 4 visits by different ‘technicians’ over a period of a month. I’d made several visits to the local Orange boutique complaining that several of the technicians didn’t have much of a clue, and after the 2nd visit they said they’d ensure that someone competent would be sent. In fact two of the chaps who clocked-in were completely in the dark about exactly where the roadside main connection porthole cover was located, and eventually abandoned the attempt. An hour later, someone who I understood to be their supervisor called to say that another technician would try again the next day if we were present. I agreed, stayed in all day, and nobody came!
A few days later, again in the Orange boutique I told them if they couldn’t get their act together, not to bother and offered to hand back the Livebox which they’d sent several weeks earlier. I guess that not wanting to loose us as a customer, they assured me they would find a solution.
Two other technicians clocked-in on Monday. I asked if they’d been briefed on our problems, which resulted in 2 blank looks - obviously they hadn’t, but assured me they’d be able to complete the connection. 3 hrs later we were satisfactorily connected.
Moral of the story, I’d like to think that it pays to complain - or was it just 4th time lucky?

For those who may be interested:
I was always quite happy with our ADSL connection speeds which was more than adequate for general internet web browsing, YTube videos etc. As we never watch streaming videos - Netflix or the like, our existing connection speeds were satisfactory.
However regular updates of FireFox security patches and especially Apple OS system updates on many of my Macs were indeed time consuming, which is what motivated to change to fibre-optic. Just this week I have updated these systems; Firefox which took seconds rather than 5-10mins, and Mac OS updates taking several minutes instead of hours with the latest LiveBox 7.
So fibre-optic cable speeeds are indeed far faster than copper cables, with download & upload speeds radically improved, but......one shouldn't believe some of the exagerated marketing hype speeds.
So to conclude, very pleased we made the change.

I started down the road as I was going to rent the place on AirBnB. The fibre Livebox has now been returned to Orange and I've given up.
I've had zero complaints about ADSL internet speeds from guests, and I assume they will have been using the "smart" TV for Netflix or whatever. I've not had any remote workers, as far as I can see.
