Insuring bank cards and passports
Hi
As I mentioned in a previous thread, although I would consider myself security conscious, I had my bag stolen last week, losing my purse with bank card, UK driving licence etc, cheque books, passport, (which I rarely carry), and the usual paraphernalia!
I just wanted to point out that it seems it is not possible to claim under a household policy, not sure if you can add it on, but you need insurance via your bank, Credit Agricole charge 6,60€ per month. Unfortunately they didn't offer it to us and to get a new passport will cost over 150 €, bank charges have been almost 90 € and I will not be able to get a new UK licence, I am obliged to change to a French licence. In total I think it will be 400 € at least to replace everything, luckily my keys and phone were in my pocket.
In a previous life I worked for several years for an Insurance Broker and so I assumed I had cover under our household policy but this has been a nasty and expensive experience so I would urge you all to check you have cover.

Thanks for sharing this though. It's so easy to assume you're covered for things, and a horrible shock to find out you are not. It's also not so easy for newcomers who are not fluent in the language to understand exactly what is covered either which is an added problem - it's bad enough trying to understand insurance policies in English, let alone in French.
Hope everything goes well now though
