HOW OLD IS MY FRENCH PROPERTY?

Re: HOW OLD IS MY FRENCH PROPERTY?
You could start to get some idea by looking at any exposed structural timber, perhaps in the attic, to see if it was machine sawn. Similarly looking at structural nails - if any are protruding or dropped in the attic - to see if they were machine cut or hand cut (somewhat irregular).
It does not work quite as well here in France. When I replaced the roof on one of the buildings half the tiles that came off were handmade - you could actually see that one of the makers had a broken leg.
Crikey they must be old i said to M Bouillon. Oh yes he said. Probably fifty or sixty years.

Not a wind up IVV
After cutting to size, they shape(d) them by pressing them onto their upper thighs I was told. Quite a few had a left handed (or legged) twist to them.

I've not heard of that one before and must confess that I am a little sceptical. This is an article on the same subject which you might find interesting:-

My post is far more Wromantic.
Haven't read your article yet (off to bed now) - it looks fascinating, so I shall tomorrow. Thank you.

Wromantic? I believe it's more sinister. Biggles, I reckon that your tiler had more than just one gammy leg, and was possibly hauled up there in his wheelchair. You really should have checked on those tiles for evidence of tyre tracks and skid-marks......

Re: HOW OLD IS MY FRENCH PROPERTY?
It explains some of the odd shaped tiles on our old house. But I prefer the new tiles they fit together and whats more they keep water out.
