Don't know if this loan calculator will be of any assistance.
Prêt Immobilier : les taux des crédits dans les grandes banques françaises
I note that it's up to date (2015), and based on 25 or 30 year 100k loan. Unsure if that sum is just for a convenient example or whether it's the minimum sum acceptable to those establishments.

La Banque Postale might be worth a try, much less commercial than proper banks, much slower too.

Thank you all for your help with this!

Although the idea sounds wonderful of having a bolt-hole, we are very realistic about the properties and know that there is a lot more to it. We certainly won't be buying anything without first going into every detail and heads will definitely rule over hearts.

North Wales is gorgeous, but we are still around should any needs arise regarding the business. If we are out of the country, Mike can't be around and so he relaxes more hence moving out of the country. Who knows, perhaps a permanent move may be on the cards later on in life.

We have three grown-up children and so wills will be made, back up finances will be inplace should anything arise and luckily with having our own business in a trade, items can be procured to deal with any DIY needed and luckily Mike is excellent in that way, can turn his hand to what's needed as he has to in his business.

Thank you all for your support and I'm happier knowing that there are people out there who are willing to give advice where needed. I'm sure we will be asking for more advice in future!

you're welcome!
It's a pleasure to see someone with the right attitude and not disappearing from the forum when our realistic advice isn't appreciated....
Good luck with your search and keep us up to date!
