Incidentally, is it possible for anyone to explain to me in very simple terms what I did earlier, and why it has stopped my pc from shutting down?

For Toulouse and Surrounding that's pretty poor, That being said mind contention ratios in your area will be very high. What do you contractually pay for bandwidth wise.

Absolutely no way !

I think you are confusing the speed of your WiFi with the actual speed of your ADSL connection.

A good WiFi signal will show 54mb but that is NOT the speed of your ADSL simply the speed at which your laptop and router can talk to each other and also any other devices you may have networked.

If you go to www.degrouptest.com and enter just your phone number then go to 'Plus de details' it will tell you several things amongst which will be the Débit descendant ADSL. That is your maximum theoretical speed.

HO YES!!! It is VERY easy to confuse me with anything remotely technical; I happily hold my hands up to this!

thanks for the info though!

You have resolved your problem, but for further improvements you might like to use the firefox (free download) web browser rather than Internet Explorer. It is a lot faster when handling images/video etc and is also more secure.

Thanks for the advice jonkemp. I was converted to Firefox a couple of years ago. Much prefer it to IE.
