Went through the local telephone directory and took pot-luck. As it turned out the young(ish) dentist couldn't speak a word of English either, but she was pretty and we got on like a house on fire. After the 5th appointment I probably knew more about root fillings than the average Frenchman; I mean, I was highly motivated, and obviously was keen to learn more. It was only after the 3rd appointment that I understood (not without difficulty) that her husband was a Judo 5th dan (I kid you not)!
If I'd have found an English speaking dentist at the time, I'd know a little less today about bucco dentaire practices, and probably Judo too.

I could probably recommend one or two nr Colomiers or Blagnac if that's not too far?

The dentist(e) I was referring to was in Colomiers.A few years later I went to see another in (believe it or not) Blagnac for a filling, and two weeks later ended up with a terrible gum abscess, which took ages and several other dentists to sort out. Never went back to that Blagnac guy again for treatment, and he came recommended by someone in work!
As I say, sometimes it's pot-luck.

I've worked in dentistry in various roles for 30 years - nurse, dental health educator, hygienist and I worked with an excellent dentist near Toulouse for 18 months. So, there's a better than pot-luck chance that I could recommend someone good.....
Tweedpipe - it was "fraise" that always made me laugh...did you find out what that was in dental french?

Regarding fraise, it was a french word I used quite frequently (along with fraiser) in an engineering role.
Agreed that the fruity variety is more pleasing than a visit to the dentist.......

Why would you go back to the UK for your teeth, it's too expensive in England!

Otherwise, what was the connection between the two halves of the sentence, and indeed what was the thread all about?

I too thought it clearly implied that if nobody could recommend a dentist in Gers, then the OP would consider a trip back to England. Somewhat strange I agree.

Me too, although I did suggest one in Condom. However I think I may be confused, to be 5 hours from an airport suggests to me perhaps the OP doesn't have a car so perhaps Condom was too far too?
