I really don't want to put him on a plane, but that might be the only way. American Airlines seem to have the best safety record for pets, and JFK seems to be the most pet-friendly airport.
what breed do dog is it and what month are you hoping to fly? Many airports will not fly pets during the hot summer months.

Jersey girl: Probably not before September, but hopefully no later than mid November. Looks like Air France is the only option, though they are flying fewer planes at the moment.
