Christmas mail from the UK
It can be unreliable but this year it has been utterly ridiculaous. We have had so many cards correctl stamped and addressed and posted in plenty of time which have only arrived in the past 10 days or so,
"Winner" so far is one posted on December 16th which arrived today 26/1/18.

Wow.
Many Brits criticise the UK for poor levels of performance or service - with some justification.
However, bad performance or bad service exists in other countries including France.

Think yourself lucky, here, 1st class post leaves the uk after 24-48 hours but arrives in ones postbox here about 3 weeks later usually.

3 similar parcels posted same day from Budapest. One, to the US, took 10 days, the other two, both to the UK and to the same address, took over 3 weeks and were delivered on different days.

I do agree. We have Danish friends living here who more often than not never receive mail posted from their homeland to France,

Re: Christmas mail from the UK
When we moved from the UK we arranged for the Royal Mail to redirect our post, initially for 6 months. Fine. 3 days before the service was due to end we received an invitation to extend for another 6 months. Phoned the service, paid by credit card (payment taken immediately) & was told all ok. 3 days later I receive a letter saying that, unfortunately, extending the service would take 5 working days to execute. Not good.

Mailed a letter at my local French post office, clearly addressed with a priority stamp. It took 20 working days to reach its destination 2km away.

It would seem that the problemss were/are on this side of the Channel.
We had a card from a Breton friend which took 28 days to arrive. The latest edition of Connexion had an "explanation" from Royal Mail. It would seem that all mail for France posted by the adivised day and correcctly stamped ahd been delivered to the distribution centre in Lille in time for delivery in France. There it sat.
Our record so far has been posted Dec 15th, arrived February12th. I'm going to invest in carrier pigeons.
