Default Can I bring cheese to France?

Hi,
I am flying to Toulouse from Bristol on New Year's Eve to visit parents and sister, can we take cheese to France????

Am also bringing in christmas presents and presents for my parents 40th wedding anniversary, as well as baby stuff for pregnant sister, am I likely to be hit with a problem at either airport????

Many thanks
Charlie

Hi Charlie,
you are not supposed to take any dairy produce into France but to be honest have never been stopped, either at ferry port or at airport.
The presents should be okay too but would suggest you only wrap them when you get there, just incase they want to check what's inside, especially at Bristol.
Have to say, I find France one of the easiest countries to enter into. Often at Cherbourg there isn't even anyone there to check passports, let alone anything else. Toulouse might be different, being that bit bigger.

Hi Val,
Thanks for the response, will risk the cheese, I have left the presents unwrapped for exactly the reason you stated, must remember to pack some wrapping paper!

soft cheese yes, but hard cheeses like cheddar, double gloucster are hard to come by. Camembert isn't quite the same as cheddar with branston pickle

It would appear that I do! Looks like I now about to embark on a new career as a cheese smuggler. Whats the penalty for that??
