Central heating problems
Having had repeated problems with my Oertli system cutting out I told the guy who usually "fixes" it that if he did not solve the problem this time I would not pay for his visit. He says it is fixed but to achieve this he has disconnected the flexible hose that feeds air from the coaxial fluepipe into the fan intake of the burner. The burner now draws air local to itself. Is this an approved modification and is it safe?

Re: Central heating problems
Where is the burner? Is it inside the living area?
If the burner is inside the living area then no it is not safe, because it could reduce the oxygen levels and lead to production of carbon monoxide, which is odourless and highly toxic.

Re: Central heating problems
Many thanks for the quick response.
The system is located in a seldom used part of the house. It is in a small room accessed from a guest bathroom which itself is part of an en-suite guest bedroom. There is a carbon monoxide detector at the entrance to the bathroom. In the boiler room is an open 10cm by 30cm slot through an external wall (used when refilling the fuel tank).
