Smile Campsites open in feb/march in Aquitaine & poiters charente

Hi,

Me, my partner and my little french bulldog lucy are planning to open a campsite in sw France. Specifically Aquitaine or possibly poiters charente. We have just bought a touring caravan and planning to go over in February
/march to explore the areas look at some land visit some estate agents etc. Being out of season not all campsites and camp du municipal are open. Does anyone know of any places you can stay with a touring caravan in these areas this time of year. Even a field with no facilities is fine. Also does anyone know if you can stay overnight in lay-bys in France? also any CL sites.

Also any other advice or info that may be relevant to my move to France

I don't know about being legal, but it's dangerous to sleep over in lay-bys. Too many pirates for comfort...
For camp sites open all year, you could try googling "campings ouvert toute l'année" followed by "Aquitaine" and/or "Poitou-Charentes".
Hope this helps!

Hi to everyone, I've just signed up on this site! shame I didn't find it along time ago, in september I've been in France 12yrs. In answer to your question where ever you find a little blue panel with a campingcar on it with 3 little wavy lines under the camping car you can camp safely and for free, they are everywhere in France. There will normally be toilets and running water aswell hope this helps and good luck
