Default Bordeaux

We are thinking of buying a property near Bordeaux and were wondering if there are any British expats living in that area who might be able to give us some advice. I understand that its raining cats and dogs right now. Thanks in anticipation of some sort of response.

Hi,
Don't cross the whole Aquitaine Région off your list, simply because no one has replied to your thread (the title Bordeaux being rather specific)! Dordogneshire is in the Aquitaine, if it's English expats that you're looking for!
You could also try a regional forum, e.g. angloinfo or total... which cater for expats in specific regions. (Sorry Mods, delete if you think fit!)

Hey

I have lived here for 7 weeks and I know that it rains a lot, especially on a Sunday but it is a beautiful city so I never get depressed by it. On the plus side the people here are really great, always a smile in response to the few French words that I know. The shopping is good and there is a nice thriving nightlife, full of Irish pubs which I find odd. The city is stunning and there is plenty to do and plenty of dog poo on the streets but I have been led to believe this is a French tradition and not limited to Bordeaux. I suspect from my time here that the suburbs close to Bordeaux are not too pretty but I am assured that the beach living, approx 1 hour from Bordeaux is great. So if you can't live in the city maybe you should look to the Western beaches.

Ciao

All I can tell you is I had one of the best meals I have ever had in a crappy looking hotel about 20 kms to the East of Bordeaux
