Default Any experience of getting a caution bancaire

Hi,
Has anyone any positive????! experiences of obtaining a caution bancaire against the rental of a house? We're currently trying and can put up with the endlessly long process it entails to get it in place but are a bit stumped at the costs the bank are proposing, when at the end of the day there is no risk to them as it'll be our money they're holding for us in case we default on our own rental payments.
Thanks
Louise
