Default Anchovy Paste - Are the French being Difficult?

This may seem completely crazy but I live in Spain and love Shiphams Achovy Paste. For quite a while I have been unable to indulge myself and today when in Morrisons in Gibraltar I was saying to a friend how I was unable to get it. I was overheard by an assistant who said to me that it is on their list to get from the UK but they have been unable to get it due to "a French embargo" similar to the beef embargo a few years ago. This seems nonsensical so I thought I would ask on the French forum if anyone had heard of this. Over to you.

I would rather chew on a camels scrota than eat Anchovy Paste. Cant say I have heard of any embargo.

Wonderful on hot buttered toast for breakfast. Much nicer than camel!

Don't know about anchovy paste but yesterday I stocked up at Lidl, this weeks promo is English food, I bought frozen fish and chips, which we will try later in the week, steak pie, (which went down well in our house, cheddar cheese which is excellent, plus a few other thing not yet tried, mint sauce etc. The quality of the things we have had so far has been surprisingly good, so I would recommend them as worth a try! Not badly priced, either.
They also have sweet pickle, jelly babies, potato waffles and a few other things. No tea bags though. Don't know how popular English food is here but often their promos sell out pretty fast....
Hope this doesn't constitute advertising, I see it as a public service announcement!

Where? I cannot find anywhere to buy it online. I have tried to get people to buy it from the UK and bring it over with no success.

Scrolled through both pages and didn't see any anchovy paste (though I never eat it anyway so have no idea what the container looks like.

However, I had to laugh when I saw this one

Back in 1964 when I met my first wife (Swiss father/Italian mother) who was au pair in Torquay (my home town) at the time, she told me that her journey over (by train in those days, what else?) took two days. She stayed one night at a hotel somewhere and in the morning was presented at breakfast with what she thought (horrified) was white worms in some kind of reddish jelly stuck on a piece of sodden toast. There was no way she was going to try that and went off on the last leg of her journey hungry with just a cup of very mediocre coffee (her Mum was a real Italian who made excellent espresso and cappuccino) inside her.

When she told me that story, I realised from the description they had offered her tinned spaghetti on toast for breakfast - a mortal insult to any true Italian!!
