I just did it this weekend gone and didn't have any problems at all with traffic, drive down Weds and back Sunday and was all over from Poitiers to Angouleme to Bordeaux and back up again. Only traffic was around Bordeaux really.
I avoided the route past Paris and went Le Mans way (A28) was 5 1/2 hours both ways.
Was a little heavier on Sunday, but nothing compared to the UK!

That 5 1/2 hours was Calais - Poitiers by the way....not the whole journey
