trekking in Chiang Mai, Thailand
We are planning a 3 day trip to Chiang Mai at end of September. Can anyone recommend a place to stay and a trekking tour? We were thinking either Galare Guesthouse or Gap Guest House. Any comments or recommendations? Thanks!

I did a 3-day trekking in 1998 consisting of two days of walking (visiting hill tribe
villages in a "non-tourist" area) and the third day with an elephant ride and bamboo
rafting. After the rafting we drove on top of Doi Inthanon (very nice) and we stopped
at a waterfall for swimming. I'd suggest that you make arrangements in Chiang Mai
(there are tons of tour operators). We paid 1500 Baht each in January 1998.

My experience with Gap's was excellent - but it's very popular, and I don't
believe they take reservations - first come first served. Not far from there
is Eagle GH - no personal experience there, but it did come highly
recommended. Enjoy -

Hi
Go to www.chiangmaimall.com and click on
accommodation. Plenty of options with some you can book in advance.
