Re: Sibu
Been there on business.
Not much to do or see really unless you are into ... well what? (well, river trips, long houses Sarawakian culture )
It's a timber/logging town or was when I was there maybe 20 years ago with some nice restaurants.
Will give you a good feel for how Sarawak is.
Friendly people.
IIRC you can get there by Express boat, maybe also go up to Kapit.
Express boats 20 years ago used to show pron films on their internal TV for the consumption of anyone travelling so beware if you intend to travel that way and have kids, and they are still shown.
Of course internal flights are easy and maybe there is road travel now?
You might love the place, you might not.
Depends on what you like.
I haven't been back but I've been to many similar places in Sarawak and worked in a few.
For a holiday for me, nah.
To work in, loved it.
Having googled a bit I see that I am well out of date.
Like many of the towns I worked in in Sarawak, Bintulu, Miri, Kapit and some of the smaller ulu villages it has developed out of all belief.

Re: Sibu
Hi Ballin,
Been in Sibu 4 - 5 times, now here for at least 2 years starting up a business.
If your only here for 1 week there are only 2 or 3 decent hotels, The RH Hotel and Premier Hotel, food is reasonable (western) and rooms are "relatively" cheap. I've just taken a long term lease of a room at the Premier until i find something else.
Not much to do but the people are friendly.
Good luck

Re: Sibu
no havn't heard of it.
I have a local agent here in Sibu / Sarawak who seems to be "related " to everyone...so i'm sure he will have some info.
By the way - i'm assuming your coming here for work/business?....no one would come here for holidays !!!
I commute regularly between Singapore/Batam/Thailand/Malaysia and here so if u need any assistance let me know (if i'm REALLY lucky I get home to Brisbane occassionally!!)
Cheers
