Kuala Lumpur Accommodation Advice
Hi,
We are planning on stopping in Kuala Lumpur on our way to Australia at
the beginning of December. We arrive at KLIA at 7.20 on a Monday
morning and leave at 9.40 on the Thursday morning. Our initial idea
was to stay at the Concorde INN at the airport and commute into KLIA
as and when we needed to (I believe the train is 28minutes?) The
reason for this was we thought it would stop us having to carry large
amounts of luggage about and may make checking in that early in the
morning more hassle free. Our travel agent has suggested staying in
Kuala Lumpur and spending only the night before we leave at the
airport.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to which idea would be better.
Also does anyone have experience of staying at the airport and
travelling into Kuala Lumpur - do you feel cut off as you are so far
out?
Thanks in advance

I never stay in KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport), I would say u better stay in KL city itself. Loads of things to see and to do at night. If u stay in the airport, then after u check in u want to go out, then maybe in the afternoon u want to have some rest, then go out again at night for sight seeing. I would say will be loads of travelling and wasting time on the train journey.
If u stay in the hotel in the city ... u can go out in the morning, maybe back to the hotel at noon for relaxing and res, at night u might want to see chinatown and jalan bukit bintang (night life scenery).
Hope this help.

What you can do is stay at the KL Hilton at KL Sentral. Along with the KL Hilton, the City Air Terminal (CAT) is also situated at KL Sentral.
As such If you stay there you can have the airline send your luggage directly to the CAT (The CAT has it's own airport code) where you can collect it and check in to the Hilton, without hassle.
As the KL City Monorail and Putra LRT also stop at KL Sentral, it will make getting around KL city much easier.
Also, when the time comes to leave KL, you can check your bags as well as yourself in at the CAT and then take the train to KLIA.
Do note however that you can claim and check-in your bags at the CAT only if you fly Malaysia Airlines.

Your travel agent is right. If you have lot of baggage just take an airport taxi ( economy or luxury or mini van ) to the city. Try to see Batu caves, Genting highlands ( hourly buses leave KL Sentral and tickets can be bought there). If you have time, take a plane to Penang and explore that island.

Don't even think about staying at the Concorde INN at KLIA - it's an absolute hole. I visit KL every year and once decided to stay there just one night because my flight arrived at 01:30am and I was too tired to drive. Big mistake.
Best hotel in KL, without a doubt in my opinion, is the Shangri-La on Jalan Sultan Ismail. See my post at

for ideas on what to do in KL.
