Default E2 Visa Korea

I have just discovered my contract is being cut short by 6 weeks,(company is going under, no fault of my own) I wanted to stay in Korea until November when my other half finishes so we can go travelling together, how easy is it to transfer to a tourist visa once my E2 is cancelled? I am not too bothered about getting another job was just going to bum about for a couple of months. Thanks

Could you possibly go to Osaka or somewhere and then re-enter Korea as a tourist.

Korean immigration are funny from my experience and unfortunately also slightly racist. Most westerners can travel there for up to 90 days visa free though.
