Re: Customs in brunei
You can take Used household goods and personal effects duty free if they have been owned and used for 12 months or more, anything newer than that may be subject to duties and taxes.
Here's what you cant take - Prohibited items:
• Publication and printed materials, such as film, CD, VCD, LD, DVD, cassettes
• Satellite receiver (TVRO system)
• Fire arms, ammunitions and explosives, fireworks, any dangerous weapon and scrap iron
• Any religious publication, any written Quranic verses
• Fresh, chilled and frozen meat
• Living plant, planting materials. Any living animals and all parts of animals under CITES article
• Live animals, aquatic marine, breeding prawn food
• Timber and timber product
• Health food, snacks and beverage, medicines, traditional medicines, chemicals, and radioactive
• Antique or article of historical nature made or discovered in Brunei
• All used / reconditioned vehicles with or without engine
• Telecommunication and radio communication apparatus
• The order, insignias, medals, badges and decoration instituted by statues of His Majesty The Sultan
• Ice, Sugar and salt
• Mineral water and building materials
• Gases that depletes the ozone layer (ODS) used especially in servicing and maintaining air conditioners, refrigeration, vehicles and fire
extinguishers
• Alcohol
• Cigarettes
You CAN take small amounts of dried food (<5kg) if shipping by sea but we STRONGLY recommend not doing so as it may cause customs delay.
With all items they allow 'a reasonable quantity for personal use and consumption'... excess amounts might alert customs to inspect further or require further documentation from you.
Hope that helps?

I've just sent off an email to our offices there to double check, it may be that FIDI are suggesting those items as do not ship as they are subject to screening by the censor board, which could cause customs delay, but I want to make sure. I'll post once they've got back to me.

You are a star, thanks for all the other information. I am quite happy for them all to get checked but just figured that without sky kids will be replying on DVD and CDs......
All the other I for I kinda thought was the case. Was thinking more toiletries, cleaning products, tins of beans etc. I had wondered about cereals and other sorts of foods....
Thanks again

Re: Customs in brunei
Hi, sorry for the delay in getting you this info, I recieved a reply this morning from our agent in Brunei who tells me that if DVD's/CD's are for personal use and not commercial resale (i.e. with your household goods) then they are NOT prohibited, which is great news for the kids!
They may be subject to screening to ensure content is appropriate (for example not of a religious nature etc) but other than that it's allowed.

Just for reference, you can buy Heinz Baked Beans here, along with loads of waitrose brand cereals (amongst others) it's strange though how fresh milk costs more than the petrol!
