It's just a 45 minutes ferry ride from Singapore. It's actually part of Indonesia. Try searching "Bintan Lagoons" if you want to find out more. Hope that helps.

Cheers

But Bintan is suspiciously part of the US-Singapore FTA.

Also, the Singapore dollar is the de-facto currency of choice in Bintan.

Need to keep an eye on the bills though... not sure if they still do, but they used to quote the prices in one currency, then charge you in the other at the end of the stay, making a tidy sum on the exchange rate they used......a touch annoying, but it was small beer in the scheme of things....some of the hotels there were very good, and at exceptionally cheap prices compared to some parts of the world...

They quote prices in Singapore dollars and Indonesian rupiah and if you pay in dollar bills, that's the end of the story. If you choose to pay by credit cards, they are obliged to charge the equivalent amount in rupiah (the official currency), so you're at the mercy of whatever exchange rate they choose to use.

They must have changed it then - thats good. Its a few years since we were there, but each time we went we got "caught" because at that time they only quoted one price on menus, spa treatments etc (SGD) then charged in the other (Rup). Never actually tried to pay in cash cos we never carried that much around!
