It took me about 4 months. I wish to God it had taken a lot longer so I could have changed my mind. Thankfully it only took me the same amount of time to sell the place in Spain and move to the US.

I was in N Costa Blanca about 11ks from Javea in a Jesus Pobre. I just didn't put enough thought into the move. I didn't realise how much I'd miss working or how much I'd miss living somewhere progressive. The climate wasn't all that. Weather in winter can be awful with loads of rain, summer is so flaming hot that you can't move.

Crime rates are a killer. I had 4 robberies, my last one being at the Air France check in when I was leaving for the US!

Some people love it there, others like me can't leave soon enough. My removers said that they move as many people out as they do in.

If you buy a new property ' off plan' ( which seems to be the cheapest way ) expect to wait 18/24 months from start of construction to completion date.
Wait another 10 years for the pavement to be completed

That's what happened with my flat !!- not that I was in a hurry - and I've spent the last 18 months watching other flats being constructed to the same time scale .

Make sure your abogado takes his time completing all the necessary paperwork correctly - do not have some estate agent rushing you into signing the final papers before then

Another negative post, sorry!! we live in gandia, think long and ahrd before you move over here, it isn't all sunshine and beer!! we have found it very difficult to settle and I agree totally with sibsie, it took us a year to plan the move from putting our property in uk on market to actually taking the plunge and moving into rented acc. over here. I too wish it had taken longer!!!
don't get me wrong we would never move back to the uk, if we have learnt anything from this move its that theres more to life than rain, keepin up with the jones' and work! the pace of life is slower (a lot slower, which is a pain when you are trying to get stuff done!) so unless you have a large sack of patience be warned the manana thing can really wear you out!!)unless you can come over here and retire it is very difficult to get on, quite a few of the parents i have spoken to at school or just people i've met a few times have all said the same, the spanish are lovely people but to become good friends is a different matter.
what part of spain are you moving to and why?(sorry not trying to be nosey just interested)

good luck and look before you leap!!!!

Thanks for the info ,everything is being taken on board

We are looking in the granada area and are fairly flexible as to where we want to go.

We've got 4 kids so have to take into consideration schools as well.We dont want to send them to an english school(if we can help it!)But we might have to send our youngest to an english school as she has special needs!!

As to the reply before you we dont want a new house,we would like an ol dspanish house and before you all go :scared: we have thouht about it a lot (for the past 8 months) and our house isnt even on the market yet! Also we are both very laid back people and can i just add we have been in this house for 13 years and it has only been 'done' in the last 3 years so yes i have got A LOT of patience

Any more info would be apprieciated
