Default TRA and Vetassess

Dear all

Just when I think I have the application process straight, I read another thread that throws me off on another tangent. The one thing that I need to know is, which electricians can apply through the TRA route.

It seems that the TRA site says they assess electrical fitters and electrical mechanics.

Vetassess seem to assess General electricians.

From my understanding most electricians want an electrical mechanics licence, so I would've thought TRA would be the route to go.

To me this sounds too obvious, so I must be getting confused somewhere. Please can someone put me straight!!!!

Damn, this is confusing. Oz seems a very far away at this stage.:curse:
Thanks
Craig

electrical mechanic and electrical fitter are australian trades.
for your visa skills assessment you will be assessed by vetassess for general electricians, or if you are applying as electrician special class then you will be assessed by TRA.

what type of work do you do?

lee.

Generally housebashing, with a fair bit of commercial installation and some industrial maintenance. What is a special class described as?

I was wondering whether it would an advantage to change my job description, so that I can B/S my way through an easier route. I reckon that if it's poss. then might be worth it, to avoid this whole 12 mth apprenticeship tripe.

What do you think?

If most of your work is domestic housing and commercial, I reckon you would need to bullshit a bit too much to pass for a special class electrician.

Maybe Dougie could explain better?

What you saying like Jon ? That i been bullshitting on my application ?

Come on then.............

Craig, i hope what Jon is trying to say is that to be classed as a 4113-13 (special class) electrician you need to meet the spec ............

This is a list of duties that the TRA consider a Special Class Electrician to carry out on a daily basis.
4311-13 Electrician (Special Class)
Services and repairs intricate and complex electrical or electronic circuitry.
Tasks Include:
diagnoses and repairs faults in electrical circuitry which is of a complex nature
analyses drawings and specifications to determine sequences and methods of operation
uses electrical and electronic test instruments to trace faults
dismantles units, repairs or replaces defective components and re-assembles them
test-operates and monitors the performance of systems, and adjusts settings
records causes of malfunctioning and action taken
may service and repair circuitry in prototype and other non-standard units
may service and repair components of electrical equipment powered by hydraulic, pneumatic or other non-electrical energy sources

If you feel that you can complete all or most of the listed sectors then go for it i am as i feel that it does suit what i do best (O and its a whole load cheaper and quicker)

But beware there is a pretty good chance that you may have to prove what you have siad you can do and you need references that are verifiable plus supplementry eveidence to support your appliction that has proved difficult for me and i do pretty much everything on the list on a daily basis !

Hope this helps

Regards

Dougie

good advice from dougie.

if you try to blag it what happens if they request a telephone interview or worse a trades test?

if you feel you can tick off the skills on the list then you should be fine. but if you only do a bit of industrial maintenance and arent familiar with motors, starting systems, plc's, you could be pushing it a bit.

at the end of the day i would say go with the route you honestly feel is applicable to your work here.

good luck whichever way you go.

lee.

Cheers for the info folks.

Think I might have to just go down the Vetassess route then. Can't blame me for trying though!!!

Thanks for the assistance, many more questions to follow....................

Thanks
Craig
