Hello all.
I have just booked to come to Adelaide to sit the 2 day training and exam on the 3rd and 4th of November.
Anyone else doing it then?
I have noted other posts of places to stay, which is a great help.
Once passed (fingers crossed) I have one day before I fly home to go and apply for licence. Do I need an Ozzie address? Anything I should take that I will need apart from the obvious?
Cheers for all the advice Steve :

Thanks, I got the books in May, been doing it on and off because of work.
I'm a contractor here in the States too, so trying to work and study.
So I can't say how many hours it has taken me in total, infact I still have a bit to do, so won't be watching movies and sleeping on the plane.
Sorry I can't help anymore, Steve

Thank you guys,
If i may ask, how many questions in the work book?
I am still in South Africa and wondering what's best, to do the course now or go to the classes in January 2011 when we move to Adelaide!!
Any input will be much appreciated

In my experience of home study (which I have done quite a lot of), it takes a lot of effort to keep focussed on studying. It's pretty easy to get to a tough(ish) bit and just keep putting it off. When you're in a classroom environment though you have the tutor there to help out if you need it so you generally get it done quicker.
So really you need to ask yourself, can you be self motivated or will you do what I do (
) and go find something else to do until you can't put it off any longer. If you can do the former then do it now, if not wait until you get here.

I must agree it will be better to do it once we arrive there. I'll have to do the additional single phase course as well but it's ok...

hello all i'm just killing time in adelaide today sat exam wed and thurs. no need to worry about passing they will help you out and they didn't even look at my workbook or check i had done it (which i had).
a few of the lads flew out last night but i didn't want to take a chance of not having the licence sorted out, but as it turns out i had plenty of time, was finished by 2pm yesterday and just had to take my peer cert and artc to a place in the city pay the $377 and thats it.
They post the licence out to you but it's another couple of hundred to transfer it to whatever state your in.
they didn't expect anyone to do the ETSA questions in the back and didn't even mention them in the test as most people are from out of state.
it is still worth doing the logbook as it will help you in the test and he did say he failed some lads the other week for not filling it in.
i stayed at the YHA hostel in the city but wouldn't recomend it unless you get your own room as the guys were coming in at all hours turning the lights on and talking think they were french.
the guy that sorted my licence out in the city (can't remember the name of the place but peer will give you the address) was telling me they intend to introduce a national electrical licence in the next 2 years so i can't see them making it easier only harder and more expensive most likely.

glad you managed to get it all done in time, and I hope you enjoyed your stay in Adelaide despite the crappy accommodation. The place you get your licence from is the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) and the address (for others) is:
Levels G-4, Chesser House
91-97 Grenfell Street
Adelaide SA 5000
SOUTH AUSTRALIA

Thanks for the Jonnyd. I am trying to get motivated to finish the book. I will do it. Just dont want to turn up and they say. Sorry mate you haven't done all the work. Cant blame them really if they did. Anyway. Good to know it can definately be done in 2 days. That way when i pop down(start December or maybe earlier) and stay 2 nights and leave on the evening of the second day. Or just in case. Should i stay a third night? What did you take with you when you went down there?

Hi
I am Totaly new in here.
I have had my TRA back saying I qualify as a Special Class Electrician.
Looking at the Jobs most say need to be A-Class Electrician ? does this mean I must apply for a A-Class license ?
Does anyone know if I can then still apply for a A-Class license (whatever that is) and do I then just go sit the course at PEER ?
can tell me what Books I need to learn for the wire regs and how many books there are and what they are called.
If anyone could help me, that would be great.
Thank you in advance
