Fitter licence cost $1150 and takes 5-6 months
Fitter to Mechanic $3000 and takes.... probably the same if you are lucky

Hi mate,
blimey, that's a fair whack. Hopefully, your re-application to the TRA is successful. I've had a quick look at the RPL and credit transfer route as this was my Plan B if the TRA route was unsuccessful. Here's a link to a TAFE in QLD. Might be worth emailing them for more info to see if it's a viable route.

Best of luck.
Regards Derren

Just had a quick look on the dark rainy train home from London, it looks very interesting, will definitely investigate this further, an aussie i work with spoke about something similar that was done for fellow apprentices that couldn't get through the Capstone assessment. Can't believe this possibility passed me by it looks brilliant, thanks for the heads up.

rinkerdink;

your spot on mate after sept 2012 you can then go to PEER & do the A class license then transfer to any state you like, apart from SA all other states don't like this one bit but they now have no option they all have to accept the transfer of a unrestricted license form any other state.

Hi ive just arrived into adelaide. Went to skills recognition yeasterday and was told that i would have to do the whole TRA thing again, like i had to get my visa in first place. They also told me i cant work as a spark or even as a sparky mate??? is this true?
Excuse me for my igorance but what is peer? could this speed up my licensing to sa spark?

tombo1979;

you may now struggle to get work in the electrical field, you should have had the TRA sorted before coming to Australia this now sets you back for about 10 weeks until you get the TRA sorted & that 10 weeks is when they receive your application.
i shall send you an email with some info.

Get ARTC Electrical Mechanic.
http://www.deewr.gov.au/Skills/Progr...ages/home.aspx

Do the next available wiring rules course at Peer http://www.peer.com.au/Training/Upsk...2/Default.aspx
Next wiring rules course starts 22/11/11

Then take the two certificates to OCBA to get your electricians licence.

To be honest i'd settle for a fitters licence given the artc result i was given (still none the wiser but must ring them on Monday!). A distance learning book and a week at peer beats a log book and 4-5 months in queensland for the same result! If i do manage to find out how having followed all the excellent advice that has worked for others that i ended up with a fitters artc i'll be on here telling all so you can take it on board.

Cheers
