Re: ELECTRICIAN FROM UK IN OZ
I have to laugh at why OSTR makes it more difficult to get your license than ARTC. You provide the same paperwork for both.
ARTC needs 3 years post apprenticeship exp. OSTR applicants usually have 10 for immigration points.
ARTC no skills test. OSTR has a skills test
CRAZY!!!

Mashup;
NSW are now accepting licenses from SA that's due to the massive backlog of people trying to get onto Electrical courses, this i got from PEER in SA yesterday.
so its not doomsday stuff at all: the goalpost from government change week by week.
if you listen to Stev'O on here he is correct with the info he provides.
as for work well all i can say is try looking at Xmas time & January for work that's a very different story then mate.

Re: ELECTRICIAN FROM UK IN OZ
I am looking to head over in the new year as I have just received my visa. I would appreciate any advice anyone has on looking for electrical work in Oz. I have no preferences or ties so would be interested to hear any ideas. Thanks

Welcome to oz!
What state are you in? Think all states are the same now in that you have to do a 2 week course, then do 12 months log book then the same trade test as the ozzie apprentices.Its not easy to find work as i and many others will tell you. You just have to persevere and hopefuly you will get something. Its not easy for us electricians that's for sure and i do wonder why they are still bringing so many of us in
