I have to laugh at why OSTR makes it more difficult to get your license than ARTC. You provide the same paperwork for both.
ARTC needs 3 years post apprenticeship exp. OSTR applicants usually have 10 for immigration points.

ARTC no skills test. OSTR has a skills test
CRAZY!!!

Mashup;
NSW are now accepting licenses from SA that's due to the massive backlog of people trying to get onto Electrical courses, this i got from PEER in SA yesterday.

so its not doomsday stuff at all: the goalpost from government change week by week.
if you listen to Stev'O on here he is correct with the info he provides.

as for work well all i can say is try looking at Xmas time & January for work that's a very different story then mate.

As for work, there is plenty of it in sydney at the moment, things are really picking up after a poor 6 months.

I am looking to head over in the new year as I have just received my visa. I would appreciate any advice anyone has on looking for electrical work in Oz. I have no preferences or ties so would be interested to hear any ideas. Thanks

Think all states are the same now in that you have to do a 2 week course, then do 12 months log book then the same trade test as the ozzie apprentices.Its not easy to find work as i and many others will tell you. You just have to persevere and hopefuly you will get something. Its not easy for us electricians that's for sure and i do wonder why they are still bringing so many of us in
For those Sparks that are fortunate enough to find work on provisional licence what is the hourly rate? I am trying to work out cost of living against what income we might be able to earn. Thanks
