you can only have the 1 certificate, if you have done lots of installation work you apply for the Electrical Mechanics license in some states the electrical fitters license is very limiting to maybe panel wiring only NO 230v or 415v work allowed as i sat that's in some states.
however may i ask did you do the ARTC or vatessess application if its the ARTC even though your a fitter you can go to PEER in S/A & do there distance learning course to obtain the A class license. As i say in some states the fitters license wont allow you to apply for a A class license. But you can do the PEER course from the UK, you get in touch with them sign up they send all course materials to you, with lots of examples if you get stuck you email them they are great in reply.
When your here you book into PEER for the 2 day exam course its normally done in the one day but some people like the 2nd day for revision. the only people i have heard of failing the PEER course are the ones who don't do the work book or they think they know it all, if you follow the work book you wont fail.
i have spoken to Kate at PEER she says its OK for me to give people her details. be careful what info you put on here PolyAnn the admin lady on here is very good she removes private info & it makes her annoyed having to do work she could do without.
email or phone Kate she is a fantastic lady to deal with.

thanks for that info, jus emailed her. Im looking into applying to vtt to get a craft certificate and then hopefully help me make progress. i just applied directly with the artc application myself. i didnt know the different licenses/certs etc, so i kicked myself in the arse a bit, have bit of work to try get my electrical here after getting the instruments. i dont know how i can change things around or get an electrical certificate from them instead of my instruments? is it possible to change certificates. I just wonder if i get a craft electrical certificate from vtt will it strenghten my re application?

dont understand why you need an artc to apply for a visa.
perhaps there is some confusion and you maybe need to have your skills assessed by tra for migration purposes? this is different from an artc certificate (they are just run by the same body - TRA).
i was assessed by tra for migration, then applied for visa, then applied for artc after i got visa.
