Hi all, I have been checking out costs of property and keep finding amazing deals in the Paralimni area. Am I right in thinking this is in the southern half? I knowit's close to the dividing border but does that make such a difference? Why are the properties so amazingly cheap?? Does anyone know something I don't about this part of Cyprus?

Hi tracy1 , my father built a house there a few years ago and he goes there every year for a month or so and as i know it prices are starting to rise there too when one location starts to be expensive prospective buyers start looking else where so it may be cheap now but who's to say 10yrs from now it will still be cheap ! As for something you dont know and everybody else does i can tell you there isnt anything you should be worried about its all about location location !!! Paralimni is starting to grow around my fathers land they are starting to build more and more so dont worry the turks are not going to invade
they already made that mistake years ago :curse:

I spent last summer in Ayia Napa about 5k from Paralimni. It is just shy of the border by about another 5k or so. the first thing i noticed was the good array of shops there, we always did our shopping in paralimni, being cheaper than Napa. Thats about all i did there but didnt realise to be honest that there was much else there. Sounds like a good plan, i would strongly consider living there also as I am moving to Cyprus next month, but I am heading to Larnaca or Limmasol for the time being. Hope this helps.

Hiya thanks for all your replies, I haven't checked the site for a while and was surprised as I thought this thread had slid into oblivion!!
I have rechecked and prices have skyrocketed since the summer in Paralimni, a 3 bed villa was around 100k and is now around 250k!! Another boat I've missed, story of my life!!!!!!

Hi Sherpa, to be mortgage free it would be a bit beyond my budget. Especially with British houses losing value every day and the pounding (no pun intended!!) sterling has taken recently.
I would probably come out and rent for a while until I was established and confident enough to put down a large deposit and take a small mortgage, but my OH and son don't want to know. OH thinks France is a better bet and son doesn't want to move abroad at all. I think at 17 he should be chomping at the bit to get to somewhere like Cyprus but obviously not. France seems nice enough but sooooooooo quiet. Not sure I'm ready for that yet!!

If I could afford two mortgages I would do it like a shot but, forgive me cos I can't remember whether you are in the UK or Cyprus, most people here are keeping their heads down and grateful for the jobs they have and being able to pay the commitments they have here. Me included.
Maybe one day......

havent been to see the paralimni property yet havent had the time
but im hoping to get out of Aust soon and should have time to get too cyprus to have a look
my dad wants me to live there longterm but im not so sure thats what i want but you never know i may fall in love with the place
.Talking to my brother in london a few days ago and asked about the surge in property prices in the the town and yes he comfirmed the prices had risen but builders fee's also have risen so even if you had the land your still got to fork out for higher building costs so i guess its a supply and demand situation now but the town is growing so longterm should be a good investment
