Hopefully, someone can help!
My boyfriend and I, both 25 are looking to move to Cyprus! I am a remote worker so looking to get a temporary residence permit, which should allow me to live for up to 1 year with the possibility to extend as long as. I'm working for a British company which I am!
The problem is, my boyfriend is half Cypriot (his dad) but he's always lived in England, he doesn't have a Cypriot passport. From my research it looks like he would have to do national service, and as it's just the two of us moving and only for a year (national service is 14 months) it doesn't really work out, and not what we'd imagined. He was originally planning on getting a working visa as he has family who can provide him with a job.
Do you know whether he does have to do this?
Any advice would be welcomed!

If he is eligible for Cypriot citizenship then, based on rules from other countries, he can't apply for a work visa. ( visas are for non citizens)
If he has to do National Service then it is what it is.

Link: HIGH COMMISSION OF CYPRUS IN THE UK

All those who are not Cypriot citizens but are of Cypriot descent (even if they had not acquired Cypriot citizenship), were born in 1960 or after, and reside in the Republic are obliged to do military service.

It looks like the only way out of it is if you have triplets before you move

There is no such thing as "half Cypriot". He's either Cypriot or not.
