Default Good property solicitor in Paphos

I intend to buy a property in the Paphos area and must appoint a solicitor. I’ve been told that solicitors here do not have a duty of care as they do in the UK. I am looking for a solicitor who is basically honest as well as efficient. Any possibilities (I will not call them ‘recommendations’ unless you wish to!) would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

I can give you a recommendation. Before you appoint a solicitor or buy property in Cyprus watch Conor O'Dwyer Beyond Contempt on You Tube.

The Legal system over here does not work as it does in the UK despite what the official line is and even if you have done your due diligence thoroughly you may still not have any recourse should things go awry.

Good luck

Also (not that I wish to teach granny to suck eggs), read the article in The Cyprus Property News 'Is it safe to buy property in Cyprus?' and the comments section. I am assuming you have not seen it as this gives a link to legal representatives.

Personally, as someone legally trained in 1988 in the UK, I would never even consider buying in Cyprus. I had full surveys completed by specialist conveyancers that I trained with on every property I bought in the UK. That is impossible over here.

I can only agree with Maise2002. Read the following. 70,000 homeowners are trapped in Cyprus without property deeds due to what is nothing short of corruption. Just rent and keep your assets safe:

These people are paying the price for the Anglo obsession with owning property.

There is nothing wrong with wanting to either own your home or rent wherever your from, what is wrong is when innocent people are being fraudulently taken 'for a ride', it's happened to friends while overseas both renting and buying, it's not nice and niether was your comment.
