Default Diabeitker Typ 1

Hello there,

I am new to this forum and wonder if anyone could help me on my issue.

My partner and I are planning to move to Cyprus in the coming year. That is the plan anyway. We have one big problem. My partner is diabetic type 1 and would therefore not find any health insurance that will take him him on.

My question is now: Are there any expats that have moved to Cyprus with a pre-existing condition such as diabetes? We know his medication is available, but do we have to pay everything ourselves and how would he be covererd if any problems arise?

we appreciate any advise we can get.

Many thanks in advance

Karin

Welcome to the forums
Sorry I cant help specifically, but hopefully someone will be able to do so.

In general though it will depend if you are retired or not. Usually you should get full state cover if you are of retirement age. Other than that you need to apply for what I think will be an E106 which will normally give you up to two years state health cover in another EU country you have moved to

If you are of retirement age then its an E121

hi Mitzyboy,

many thanks for your reply and the friendly welcome to the forum.

We are both not at retiring age. The plan was to start looking for jobs at the end of the year and then move (provided we found jobs) to Cyprus beginning/mid next year. I will have to go over bymyself the first few month until my partner can join me due to his current job.

So as far as I understood, even if we paid into cyprus social security system, we would still need the E106? What happens after the 2years? Are we entitled to use hospiltals/perscriptions once we started paying into the cypres system?

And of course the main question: will we have to pay for the insulin while using the E106. Hopefully we can find someone who has an answer to this.

Many thanks again

Greetings from not so sunny Berlin

The E106 is simply a way of getting a temporary health card in the country you move to ... as I say, how long it lasts for depends on the contributions you have made in the UK over the last years. After that period has elapsed then you normally either need private health cover or if you pay into the system then I'm guessing like other EU countries you will become covered by the state system, but you really need to check on that
